Astros / Arcadia / East Peloponnese
Astros is a typical Greek, charming sea-side resort in one of the most historic regions of Greece, Arcadia. The surroundings are home to sites such as Mycenae, the Ancient Kingdom of Agamemnon, who, in his attempt to regain his wife, the beautiful Helena, united the ancient Greeks to launch the ten-year-long Trojan war; Epidaurus, the best-preserved open-air amphitheater of the classic era, that has in modern times been the renewed venue for the staging of classic comedies and tragedies; and so much more.
The countryside along the Eastern Peloponnese is a feast of nature: endless olive groves and orange plantations stretch as far as the eye can reach, with small villages scattered seemingly randomly across the land. Here you can enjoy the simplest, whilst at the same time, most valuable joys of life: scrolling along the long promenade of Astros, to see and to be seen, to sit in a traditional taverna zipping an ouzo accompanied by a local ‘meze’, or, just soak up the sun that makes the body surrender to the mesmerizing summer heat.
Astros can best be reached by car, as it is a leisurely two-hour drive south of Athens, with most of the road being a motorway. East Peloponnese is ideal for a car-rental and short drive to the main attractions.
